Acoustic Testing and Compliance

Stroma's UKAS-accredited acoustics division is capable of assisting projects from design through to completion. As our team of acoustic engineers is dispersed nationwide, we are able to keep lead times to a minimum and offer highly competitive fees.

Acoustic Consultancy

Our experienced acoustic consultants can liaise with the design team at all stages of a project to ensure that compliance requirements are considered from the outset, and thus achieved comfortably and economically.

Acoustic and Sound Insulation Testing

We carry out sound insulation testing to meet all regulatory standards (Part E, proposed robust details, EcoHomes, Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH), BB93 etc.) Our team has over 20 years of experience in the field collectively, and experience of carrying out tests in buildings of all conceivable sizes and types.

Remedial Measures

We can identify and advise on the appropriate remedial measures for bringing substandard structures up to the level required for compliance.

Environmental Acoustics

We can carry out Environmental Noise Assessments to satisfy the following standards:

  • PPG 24
  • BS4142 and BS7554
  • BS5228 - noise and vibration control on construction and open sites.

Building Acoustics

Stroma can provide assessment and consultancy to address a range of issues related to building acoustics, including:

  • Plant room construction advice.
  • Prediction and/or measurements of noise in ductwork.
  • Assessment of terminal cooling devices.
  • Prediction and/or measurement of reverberation times.

BREEAM Assessments

Acoustics-related BREEAM credits are available, under Hea 05 and Pol 05, for most types of BREEAM Assessment.

Stroma can assist with obtaining these credits by providing:

  • Advice and guidance during the design stages for all BREEAM applications.
  • Prediction of final performance of building against Hea 05 and Pol 05.
  • Post Completion testing and reporting to verify compliance.

Planning and Noise

We can assist with planning applications by providing ongoing advice on noise issues, and undertake post-completion environmental noise measurements to confirm compliance with conditions.

Noise at Work Assessments

Stroma can undertake measurements in the workplace to assess compliance with the Noise at Work Regulations. We can then advise on appropriate remedial measures to achieve compliance.

Building Acoustic Testing in Scotland

Operating from our Dundee base, we offer design consultations, environmental noise surveys and sound insulation and acoustic testing to satisfy Section 5, EcoHomes and Building Bulletin 93 throughout Scotland.

The 2010 edition of Section 5 has been revised to include the following deadlines:

  • As of October 2010, acoustic testing is required for all newly-built and converted houses.
  • From May 2011 all flats and maisonettes will require sound insulation testing.
