Stroma takes on the Carbon Challenge
Stroma has been appointed as independent Code for Sustainable Homes Consultant at Peterborough’s South Bank Phase One, the second of the flagship HCA Carbon Challenge sites.
All Carbon Challenge sites must meet the highest level of the Code for Sustainable Homes: Level 6. Stroma Technology is advising Developer, Morris Homes on appropriate ways to meet this challenging requirement.
The Carbon Challenge is the Government’s programme to deliver exemplar, sustainable communities as test beds for the construction industry, ultimately accelerating its response to the Government’s requirements for all new homes to be zero-carbon by 2016. The developments must also meet additional, stringent requirements related to design quality and occupier comfort.
The South Bank development, named ‘Verde’, will incorporate 344 dwellings of mixed types, green spaces, and additional mixed use elements including a nursery. A number of innovative renewable technology strategies have been explored at the site, including the use of biomass-fuelled Combined Heat and Power (CHP).
